Today, we’re tackling a common pain point for Nigerian freelancers: withdrawing your hard-earned money.

Let’s face it: freelancing has its challenges.

Between project changes, AI competition, and economic jitters, landing gigs can be challenging. But securing payment shouldn’t feel like an uphill battle, either!

While there is no official data, estimates suggest around 60% of Nigerian freelancers need help withdrawing funds from freelance platforms or receiving payments from international clients.

Sound familiar? You’re not alone!

Many freelancers get stuck because clients and freelancers can’t agree on the best payment method.

Been there, written that! Two years ago, I shared an article (still ranking high on Google!) about freelancer withdrawals.

Here’s an update on the four reliable methods I use in 2024 to get paid by global clients:

1. Payoneer: Your Easy & Established Choice

Payoneer offers a secure way to receive payments and withdraw funds directly to your Nigerian bank account. It’s particularly user-friendly for beginners.

I’ve used Payoneer for over five years, successfully withdrawing up to $10,000. The exchange rate to your bank can be lower initially, but once you reach the $1,000 threshold, you can send directly to exchangers offering better Naira rates.

Current rates: Expect around 1300 Naira to your bank or 1400 Naira to exchangers.

2. Cryptocurrency (USDT): Fast & Borderless

USDT (Tether) allows for quick, borderless transactions, but it’s not for everyone. If you and your client are comfortable with cryptocurrency, USDT offers a fast option.

Important: Be aware of cryptocurrency’s volatility and the risk of sending funds to the wrong address.

3. Wise: Competitive Rates for Global Clients

Wise facilitates international money transfers at competitive rates, making it ideal for receiving payments from global clients.

My Experience: After a few initial hiccups, I recently used Wise successfully for a seamless experience with a client.

Here’s how it works: Your client sends money to your Wise account. You can then withdraw directly to your verified bank account or use an exchanger for cash pickup.

Bonus Tip: Sign up with my referral code and we will both get a bonus!

4. Upwork Direct Contract: A Hidden Gem

Many Nigerians ask, “How do I receive money directly from abroad?” The answer might surprise you!

Upwork Direct Contract is an excellent option for receiving payments from global clients (outside the Upwork platform) using just their email addresses.

My Experience: I’ve used this method to receive up to $4,000 from Indian clients I met on Twitter. The service charge is minimal compared to the withdrawal amount.
