Have you ever been in a situation where you work for someone to help them make money, then they turn and stab you in the back?

That’s my story with Upwork!

It’s been a while since I reached out, and I must admit that my absence was not by choice. I’ve experienced something that has left me heartbroken, and I’m eager to share my story with all of you.

Since 2021, I have been a part of the vibrant freelance community on Upwork. It has been an incredible journey, filled with exciting opportunities to collaborate with international clients and expand my horizons in various ways.

I’ve grown both professionally and personally during my time on the platform.

However, everything instantly changed when I received the devastating email that Upwork had permanently disabled my account due to what they cited as ‘activity from my profile or one associated with it.’

My world seemed to come crashing down, and the helplessness felt overwhelming.

As an experienced freelancer, I have always maintained a degree of skepticism regarding the reliability of freelance marketplaces like Upwork.

Over the years, I recognized the importance of diversifying my client acquisition channels. I took the initiative to pitch my services on various social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and WhatsApp because deep down, I knew that a day might come when I’d face such a setback.

My advice to all of you is to consider alternative avenues to freelancing. Here are a few suggestions to explore:

-Get a Contract or Fixed Remote Position:

Securing a stable, remote position can give you a sense of security that freelancing platforms often can’t guarantee.

-Start a Blog:

Sharing your expertise and insights through a blog can not only showcase your skills but also attract potential clients or job opportunities.

-Float a Media Agency:

If you have a team of talented individuals, consider establishing your media agency to provide a wide range of services to clients.-

Just Do Something:

Whether it’s launching a new project, pursuing further education, or trying your hand at a different career, taking action is often the best way to overcome setbacks.

As for my future, I must admit that I’m in uncharted territory.

I’m not entirely sure where my path will lead, but I’m determined to find my way with the grace of God and the support of those who believe in my skills and determination.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of you who reached out to me on Twitter and personally for lending an ear to my rants. The support and encouragement I’ve received from the larger community has been invaluable.

I promise to keep you updated on my journey and the lessons I learn along the way so we can all grow together.

Let’s stay positive, resilient, and focused on our goals, no matter our challenges.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN SUCH SITUATION? HOW DID YOU COPE?
