Freelancing and Giving Back: How Helping Others Helped Me

Today, I am taking a break from conventional freelance topics to narrate a story about helping others in life.

After this, I hope you learn one or two things from it.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, while I was teaching freelance classes, I met a determined guy who asked for my guidance.

After a couple of months of back-and-forth learning and implementing, he landed his first job.

But then we lost touch.

Last year, out of the blue, I received a message from him. He explained that he later learned motion graphics and voiceovers and then continued implementing what I had taught him about Fiverr and Upwork.

He managed to land amazing clients who paid him a lot.

Then he moved to the UK for further studies. I was completely taken aback because I honestly didn’t know what to say and just said, “Wow.”
And then, after a lot of atotonu, he said he wanted to send me a recharge card, and I said no problem, but he should send the money as I already had enough.

To my surprise, I received an alert of #50,000. Honestly, it was the biggest gift anyone had ever given me, even matching what Brother Abiola gave me last year when we had my son.

It was at that moment that I truly realized that when we help others, we should do it for the sake of God, not expecting rewards from them.

I had actually forgotten about him, and during a time when I was praying for help, he came through.

Freelancing has the power to transform your life. Finding just one or two great clients can set you up for life.

Here’s to all of us meeting these clients and landing those gigs.
