How Do You Overcome Upwork Heartbreak of Private Profile?
The election is over now. Everyone should go back to their lives. And in our case, it means getting more serious with our freelance activities.
Many people I have encountered in different communities have complained they don’t get replies to their proposals.
Why This?
There are several reasons why you won’t get a reply to tons of proposals you are sending on Upwork.
And these reasons include poorly structured profiles, generic proposals, and copy-and-paste proposals. Others are a lack of trust in your services, poor Job Success Score, and your private profile.
Today, I will only be talking about the last one. How do you know your profile is on private? What damage can it do to your account? How can you fix it?
If your profile is private, prospective clients can’t see you are available to work.
Imagine posting your services or goods on Facebook, and they are not displaying it to your audience. That’s precisely what Upwork is doing with your profile.
Now, what happens if your profile is private?
It simply means you don’t stand a chance of landing a gig.
Prospective clients won’t see your profile no matter how wonderful it is.
No matter how exceptional you are at what you do, you don’t stand a chance of getting hired.
Importantly, all your stats will be down, and even after changing your profile back to the public, it will take a miracle to be visible early.
How do you handle this whenever you discover your Upwork profile is private?
Now, I know you are scared because of the prospect of not making money while your Upwork profile is private. But do not fret! The solution is simple.
If you notice your profile is set to private by Upwork, simply message Upwork support on any of their social media pages telling them to help set it back to public.
This is an excellent sample of what to write.
Hello XXX,
I am XXX, and I noticed my Upwork profile has been sent to private.
I have not been available to work since but I am now back. Kindly help me to set it back to public.
Thank you.
Don’t forget to attach your Upwork Email to the message.
So, that’s it. You don’t have to lose sleep again if your Upwork profile is set to private. You can literally change it in five minutes.
TEA: Last week, I wrote about the different exploitative policies Upwork is using because they want to raise their revenues. In a big twist, Upwork has abandoned its old 20% commissions on all projects to encourage new freelancers on its platform.
Now if you get a gig, you don’t have to part with 20% of your hard-earned money.
Does that mean you won’t pay Upwork anything again as a freelancer? No! However, you will only start paying Upwork 10% of your money as commission no matter the magnitude of the contract you are doing.
Is it good? I think it is fair to all parties especially new freelancers.
I hope you’re thinking about that new alternative freelance route like I said last week? All the best.
NB: I have a freelance class I will be facilitating for a school alumnus group this week, and I can’t wait. Wish me well!
And that’s that for the new week.
I wish you all the best!
Peng.
